"Trilobyte" was a series of Amiga chipdisks from 1995 to 1998. On the initiative of Okeanos/Nuance - French musician who picked up the fine art of coding :) - it has been resurrected again. And what a pleasant surprise it was!

The presentation is simple in the sense that there are no real effects except for an equalizer and a scroller, but the art by Raven is gorgeous. The design itself is quite interesting as well - spectrum analyzer on a heartbeat monitor, and the surgeon does fit the theme of "resurrection", even if he looks quite evil. But the interface is functional enough. Okeanos explains in the scroller that he preferred to lay emphasis on the music, which is of course a fair judgement for a musicdisk, and all the basic user controls are present.

On to the music. Okeanos himself is quite present on the tracklist, and also the only Nuance member to be found here. But the selection of guests (Jakim, Aceman, ko0x and Rayko) includes some of the best contemporary chiptune trackers, so the quality of the tunes does not disappoint. In particular I want to highlight the opening tune ("Funk the Bits" by Okeanos & Jakim), which is among the finest pieces of chip music released as of late. Other noteworthy contributions IMHO are "The Requiem of G" and "The Land of Flying Cubes".

A minus is that most tunes (5 out of 7) have been released before through various channels. Overall, definitely get this disk if you enjoy chiptunes. The rather short tracklist means it won't take up much of your time - even if the quality of the music makes you want to have more of it.
